What makes your home vulnerable to burglary?

You can’t think about home security all the time. But you can make sure that the most vulnerable areas of your house are reinforced, as these points could turn out to be weak links in your security, providing burglars an easy option to break in. So, what are these weak links and what can you do to secure them to prevent a potential burglaryburglary? Let’s find out.

Front door

Needless to say, the front door of your house is possible one of the weakest links in your home security. Statistics reveal that the front door is the most common entry point used by burglars to access your home. To prevent this, install a high quality robust deadbolt lock to strengthen your home security. And don’t forget to install a strike plate as well as an extra steel plate on the back of the jamb to strengthen it. It is because it is the jamb that usually gives away and not the lock when a burglar tries to break-into your house using force.

Windows

Windows are again a very vulnerable point, especially because most homeowners tend to forget locking them.  While you may always remember to lock your doors, windows are more likely to be left opened. Make sure you close and lock your windows every time you go out of your house. You can also install impact resistant glass, which would make it difficult to break the windows to get access. Installing grilles with small spaces also go a long way in lending your windows an addition security. If you have windows that slide vertically, you can supplement them with pins in the frames.

Garage Doors

After entrance doors and windows, unlocked garage doors are another threat to your home security. Install sturdy deadbolt locks from a reputed company and always keep garage doors and basement windows locked.

Sliding Glass Doors

Your good old sliding glass doors are great for allowing some sunshine and fresh air into your home. But these types of door may get you in trouble if you are not careful enough. The locking system on these doors are not strong enough and can be easily picked. In addition, a burglar can easily use a tool like crowbar to lift it right off the track and simply get it out of the way. One thing is clear, sliding glass doors offers an easy opportunity for burglars to strike. What can you do about it?
